Start a shift and share your location

While you are on shift, PrimeFix shares your live location with the operations team so they can send the nearest technician to a new job. While you are off shift, nothing is shared.

Step 1 of 4

What is shared and when

Your position goes to operations only while you are on duty. The first time you select Start shift counts as your consent, and the shift card explains what is shared before you press it.

When you select End shift, sharing stops and your last position is deleted, so you no longer appear on the live map.

  • Your position is sent when you have moved about 100 metres, at most every 20 seconds, and every 2 minutes while you stay in one place.
  • A position less precise than 1 km is not sent.
  • A corporate account shares its location only while it has an open job assigned to it.

Start a shift in the app

  1. Open the Home tab.
  2. On the shift card, read what is shared and select Start shift.
  3. When the phone asks for location access, choose Allow all the time on Android, or Always on iPhone.
  4. Check that the card now reads On duty.

On Android, an On shift notification stays in the notification bar while you are on duty. Swiping the app away does not end the shift; only End shift does.

Start a shift on the web

The shift strip sits at the top of every page. Select Start shift and confirm. While you are on duty, the strip reads On duty and has an End shift button.

If the browser has not been allowed to use your location, a Location sharing is required banner appears. Select Share my location and allow it when the browser asks.

If you are on shift in the app and in a browser at the same time, the phone's position is used. A browser left open on a desk does not pull you back to the office on the map.

If sharing stops or never starts

  • You allowed location only while using the app: sharing stops when you close PrimeFix. Select Allow all the time on the shift card to fix it.
  • Location access is off: the card asks you to turn it on. Select Open settings, allow location for PrimeFix, then come back to the app.
  • The card says Waiting for a precise location: move outdoors or near a window until the phone gets a better fix.

End your shift

Select End shift on the Home card in the app, or on the strip at the top of the page on the web. A shift started on one device can be ended on the other.

Tips

  • Start your shift before you leave for the first job, so operations can see you on the map.
  • End your shift when you finish for the day. Being on duty is what puts you on the live map.

Frequently asked questions

Does operations see my location when I am off duty?
No. Nothing is shared while you are off duty, and ending a shift deletes your last position.
Do I have to keep the app open during my shift?
Not if you allowed location all the time. If you allowed it only while using the app, sharing stops when you close PrimeFix.
Why is there an On shift notification on my phone?
Android shows it while PrimeFix shares your location in the background. It goes away when you select End shift.
